How do I publish notes to the web? How do I embed notes in other web pages?

Amplenote makes it very fast to make your note content available to select users or the internet at large. When it comes to sharing with the internet at large, we call that "publishing" or "embedding" note content.

Perhaps the coolest thing about published/embedded Amplenote content is that you don't have to be subject to the Wordpress "edit" vs "publish" tyranny that drags down the speed of document evolution. In fact, we don't stop at automatically saving your updated content. We also proactively update the page with your embedded content, as you edit the source note. ✨

First we'll talk about the basic form of sharing a note with the web: via the publish link.

Notes can be published to the internet by clicking the triple-dot note actions, and then selecting "Publish note"

From here, you click "Create a public note" to get various options that control how your note is published:

Various options available when publishing a note

Briefly, the options are:

URL Slug: Custom URL for when it's a 💅 kind of occasion

Access: Shall we direct bots not to index the page? (defaults to privacy -- not indexed)

Expires: Not publishing URL s are long UUIDs that are private by obscurity. However, for especially sensitive documents that you want to share with external parties, it's nice to be able to set an expiration on the publishing interval. Of course, it's possible that the recipient of your publish URL might copy it to their own device, but it won't be available from this particular publish token as of the selected URL.

Sometimes, you might want to share a note with different groups whose access control could vary. Or you might want to share a single note with various custom URLs.

In these cases, you can create multiple publishing tokens for the note. After creating your first publish token, then click "Generate another URL" to create addition URLs or access control:

Click "Delete link" after expanding the publish token options:

Embedding note content is one of the biggest levers at your disposal to take your ideas and get them out to the world -- in the container of your choice. 🌎

The first step to embedding note content is publishing the note, following the steps above. Once the note is published, you can click the second tab in the "Publish" dialog, for embedding content:

Several options available for configuring how your note is embedded

A brief overview of the options currently on offer:

HTML to embed: The HTML you need to paste into a web page to start loading an almost-real-time version of this note.

Add Host Domain (optional): If checked, controls how links behave and enables the inclusion of a stylesheet.

Host Domain (optional): The domain on which this content is to be published. Not necessary, but when specified, then links in the note that point to URLs within the Host Domain will not pop an interstitial window before visiting clicked link.

Stylesheet (optional): Control how note styles are interpreted. See a live example of note content with a stylesheet applied at the GitClear blog.
