Amplenote should allow the option to turn an unordered list into a checkbox list, similar to other doc editors. These would not turn into tasks and could be useful for basic things: shopping lists, simple routines, ect.
Tasks are extremely useful but are not always the best tool for basic checklisting.

Totally. Edit: For some reason, I can't upvote this, but I completely agree. We need simple checkable checklists that don't become tasks. Good for things like "books to read" or "movies to watch" etc.
